About ESA
The Environmental Science Academy (ESA) has been around since 2000. During the school year students meet weekly in a classroom on their campus and learn about the great outdoors. Whether through notes, film, guest speakers, collaborative learning, research or hands on learning students engage the environment. Those who faithfully attend these voluntary meetings are eligible to participate in a quarterly field trip in the pristine Sierra Nevadas or on the breathtaking central coast of California.
ESA during the summerThe highly focused and academically rigorous summer outdoor education course focuses on hands-on learning from experts in their field. Students sleep in tents, take hikes, work individually and in groups, engage in stewardship and scientific research projects. They also hear from scientists (including geology, hydrology, wildlife ecology, plant ecology, astronomy, anthropology, etc.) and rangers in a variety of fields. These experiences are designed to enable students to access and retain the maximum amount of information about their environment.
